Short Breaks

West House is funded by Cumbria County Council to offer a Short Breaks service to families of children and young people with a disability between the ages of 0-19 years. We offer this service in Allerdale and Copeland. The service is for children and young people who have difficulty in accessing universal services and provision.

Short Breaks includes The Elms Short Break Residential Care Home.

Referral can be made by the family and/or children and young people, Children with Disabilities Team or other professionals. Priority will be given to the following groups of children/ young people:

• Children and young people on the autistic spectrum
• Children and young people with complex health needs
• Children and young people over age 11 with moving and handling needs
• Children and young people where behaviour that challenges is associated with additional impairments (e.g. severe learning disability)
• Young People with a disability 14+

 Family Days

West House also offers a number of family days throughout the year enabling families to meet with each other and professionals. We host most of these in school holidays so that children are able to attend.
