Travel and transport presents many challenges particularly in rural areas such as ours.

Our aim is that wherever possible people with disabilities should be able to access and use the same means of travel as anyone else within the community. This includes walking, public transport, mobility vehicles and taxis.

Each person’s need for transport should be agreed as part of the support planning process in line with their individual needs and chosen activities.

Transport arrangements need to be available, flexible and affordable to ensure access to different activities at different times and venues. Individual travel support will need to be agreed as part of this process. This should include opportunities for training and progression leading to a reduction, where appropriate, in dependence.

We aim to work in partnership with Cumbria County Council in helping people to be less dependent upon transport.

Greater independence, choice, flexibility, efficiency and control are all accessible outcomes from this initiative.
